Today, March 30, La Sortie reaches a major milestone in its history with the official opening of a 15‑unit residential building designed by and for women exiting sexual exploitation.

This building includes:

  • studio apartments for emergency situations, allowing for immediate intake during times of crisis;
  • housing units for women living alone or with their children.

All units are subsidized and transitional, for stays of up to three years, and are integrated into individualized support services aimed at fostering a sustainable transition toward autonomy, stability, and empowerment.

Support Rooted in Lived Experience

The strength of this project also lies in its team. Among the support workers are women who have themselves survived the sex industry. Their lived‑experience expertise makes it possible to build deep relationships of trust, acknowledge the complex realities of individual journeys, and provide support grounded in empathy, respect, and understanding.

A Collective Achievement

This official opening is also a moment of gratitude. This project would not have been possible without the unwavering support of a broad political, financial, and community network, whom we warmly thank for their commitment to the women we serve. We wish to highlight the essential contributions of our financial partners:

  • Programme Habitation Abordable Québec: $5.7M
  • City of Montréal: $2.3M
  • Community Contributions: $1M
  • Fonds du Grand Mouvement Desjardins: $300,000
  • McConnell Foundation: $300,000
  • Maurice & Nicole McCaig: $100,000
  • Public Safety Canada: $66,000
  • Jacques Francoeur Foundation: $65,000
  • Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation: $53,000
  • Caisse Desjardins Ouest‑de‑l’Île de Montréal: $30,000

Finally, we wish to offer special recognition to the Pesant‑Crowley Family, the owners of the building, whose exceptional commitment marked a decisive turning point. By agreeing to wait more than a year under an exclusive promise to purchase, the family demonstrated remarkable solidarity, making it possible for this vision to become a tangible and lasting reality.

Today, we are celebrating far more than a building: we are celebrating a place of safety, healing, and new beginnings. Thank you for standing with us and for making this mission possible.
